Historic Carroll Cottage in Edward Street, Kingaroy, will receive funds to replace its roof<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Two of the South Burnett’s Heritage-listed historic buildings will receive a boost from State Government funding programs.<\/p>\n

JR & KE Curtain will receive $17,500 to replace the roof on the historic Carroll Cottage in Edward Street, Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Carroll Cottage is recognised as the earliest house in the settlement of Kingaroy on its original site.<\/p>\n

Built in 1900, it was the home of prominent early settler Daniel Carroll.<\/p>\n

“(It) demonstrates the growth of the town from a rural selection to a thriving town around a railhead and later a regional administrative and commercial centre,” according to the Heritage Register.<\/p>\n

“The house is conspicuous amongst surrounding interwar homes as being of an earlier period and contributes to an understanding of how the town developed.”<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council will receive $50,000 to restore the roof and rainwater system on historic Boondooma Homestead “to ensure continued community access to the site \u2013 an important tourist attraction for the region”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Boondooma station was established in 1846 by the Lawson brothers and Robert Alexander in the wake of Henry Stuart Russell’s exploration of the Burnett River district in 1842.<\/p>\n

The site is important surviving evidence of the early exploration and settlement of the Upper Burnett region.<\/p>\n

The property hosts several major tourism events every year, including Scots In The Bush and Spirit Of The Bush.<\/p>\n

The State Government has allocated more than $1 million towards Heritage projects across the State: 26 projects will receive a total of $849,373 under the latest round of the Community Sustainability Action Grants program, and 11 projects will receive a total of $174,373 under the new Showcasing Queensland Heritage pilot program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
