{"id":350455,"date":"2024-07-11T18:01:07","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T08:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=350455"},"modified":"2024-07-12T00:19:51","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T14:19:51","slug":"5-8m-for-water-sewerage-upgrades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2024\/07\/11\/5-8m-for-water-sewerage-upgrades\/","title":{"rendered":"$5.8m For Water And Sewerage"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_176267\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-176267\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-176267\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170424sewage2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170424sewage2.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170424sewage2-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170424sewage2-285x177.jpg 285w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170424sewage2-263x163.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-176267\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kingaroy&#8217;s Nerada Waste Water Treatment Plant will undergo a $3.2 million repair this year after a illegally discharged oils, fat and chemicals caused considerable damage to its equipment in February<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>July 11, 2024<\/b><\/p>\n<p>South Burnett Regional Council will spend $5.8 million in 2024-25 on upgrades and replacements of parts of the region&#8217;s water and sewerage systems.<\/p>\n<p>The upgrades were announced at Wednesday&#8217;s 2024-25 Budget meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This year, $2.6 million has been earmarked for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stuart River Rising Main &#8211; $822,000<\/li>\n<li>1000 water meter replacements &#8211; $125,000<\/li>\n<li>Drainage repairs to Gordonbrook Spillway &#8211; $87,000<\/li>\n<li>$850,000 for water main replacements in Macalister Street, Murgon; Beresford Street, Proston; Markwell Street, Kingaroy; Glendon Street, Kingaroy; and Wickham Street, Nanango.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Othera major projects for water include the continuation of planning and design for the region\u2019s major trunk infrastructure needs and an upgrade of Gordonbrook Dam&#8217;s spillway ($716,000).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mayor Kathy Duff said the coming year would be an important step in planning to improve the region&#8217;s water quality.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Council will undertake the first stage option analysis to upgrade water treatment plants and water quality reviews,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will also undertake a major air scour program in Kingaroy to reduce dirty water caused by the build-up of bio-film in water mains, and we expect this program will commence in the coming months.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A major shift to trade waste policy and enforcement will also be on the agenda for wastewater infrastructure in 2024-25, with Council budgeting $3.2 million for repairs to its state-of-the-art Nereda Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kingaroy. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The plant suffered major damage when a trade waste discharge containing acid, fats, oil and grease went into the Council&#8217;s sewer network last December.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Council is still investigating the incident and will introduce tougher policies and changes to its trade waste management procedures this year to prevent future &#8220;fatbergs&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Other projects for wastewater will continue with telemetry upgrades and the start of a trunk infrastructure sewer upgrade design for First Avenue in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related article: <a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2024\/02\/20\/dumping-damages-sewage-plant\/\">Dumping Damages Sewage Plant<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Burnett Regional Council will spend $5.8 million in 2024-25 on upgrades and replacements of parts of the region&#8217;s water and sewerage systems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":176267,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[22,3],"tags":[1131],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
