June 25, 2024

The annual Yarraman Show & Shine is rapidly becoming the biggest local event for car and bike lovers.

The Yarraman and District Progress Association’s second outing on Saturday attracted about 120 cars, 30 bikes, a couple of trucks and about 1000 people through the gate.

Association president Rob Mackie said it had been a fantastic day and he had received good reports.

“About six or seven car clubs turned up,” he said. “Everyone went home happy.”

New for this year was the traffic control on the highway – and parking supervision – handled by members of the Yarraman and Goombungee SES units.

Unfortunately, many people left after the trophy presentations, which meant the crowd had thinned by the time the fireworks display started.

“We might not have fireworks next time, unless we can get a sponsor,” Rob said.

The Blackbutt Car Enthusiasts Club organised the car competition, while the Patriots Australia MMC organised the motorbikes.

The Yarraman Men’s Shed did a magnificent job with the trophies, which drew special praise from Toowoomba Mayor Geoff McDonald who presented them to the various category winners (see below).

Rob said the event takes about 12 months to plan so work will begin soon on next year’s Show & Shine.

The Association has now fixed on a regular date … the Show & Shine will always be held on the third weekend of June.

Rob thanked the committee members for their efforts: Leanne Johnson and Edwin Teary (The Yarraman Shed); Bianca Smith, Craig and Thomas (Patriots MMC); Cindy, Wayne and Peter (Blackbutt Car Enthusiasts Club); and Nathan (Yarraman Ambulance); and the sponsors: Tarong Meandu Stanwell, Bendigo Community Bank Yarraman, Toowoomba Regional Council, TCP Designs, Wild Horse FM99.7, South Burnet Online, Burnett Today, The Yarraman Shed and Shannons Insurance.
