Vets from RSPCA Queensland, accompanied by a team of veterinary students, visited Cherbourg recently as part of the charity’s Visiting Vet Program.

It is the RSPCA’s second visit to Cherbourg, following up on a desexing program which was run in conjunction with Cherbourg Council last year.

Community vet Bronte Millman said there had been a decline in the number of unwanted animals.

“I think it really highlights the importance of the program and how much it is actually helping the community,” Ms Millman said.

A total of 27 surgical procedures were performed and 20 microchips were implanted.

Two dogs were also surrendered and have since been rehomed by the RSPCA.

RSPCA Queensland Community Project Specialist Nanda Ten Grotenhuis said it had been a successful couple of days.

“There was a sense of great co-operation between all the different teams, and it felt so good to make a difference to pets and their owners in the Cherbourg community,” she said.

The RSPCA is also currently running it annual Operation Wanted discounted desexing program across the State.

Discounted pet desexing is available until August 31 at participating vets. Register online
