Students at Kingaroy State High School are celebrating a win … on Wednesday, the KSHS Vocal Group won a Silver Medal at the Darling Downs-South West Division heats of Choral Fanfare.<\/p>\n

The win means the group may be selected to perform as one of two regional representatives at the State Gala Concert which will be held in Brisbane City Hall’s Main Auditorium on August 19.<\/p>\n

The 38-member choir is made up of students from Years 8 to 12.<\/p>\n

They travelled to Toowoomba yesterday to compete in the biannual competition, which is organised by Education Queensland.<\/p>\n

This is the tenth year Choral Fanfare has been run.<\/p>\n

Its aim is to showcase Queensland’s best State School choirs, as well as celebrate the work being done by music teachers, choral directors and students.<\/p>\n

The group performed four pieces at the regional heats: “Wade In The Water”, “Ein J\u00e4ger aus Kurpfalz”, “Scarborough Fair\/Canticle” and “You Raise Me Up”.<\/p>\n

Judges praised the group’s performances, noting there were “some very fine voices across this ensemble” and that the group was “fabulously tight”.<\/p>\n

KSHS conductor Susan Dowideit-Reiger said she was delighted with the choir’s result.<\/p>\n

The Vocal Group is an extra-curricular activity at the high school.<\/p>\n

The group is now rehearsing for its next major performance, which will be at Creative Generation on July 19-20.<\/p>\n

Creative Generation – State Schools Onstage is one of the State’s largest performing arts events with more than 1500 students from across Queensland showcasing their talent at four arena-style shows held at South Bank.<\/p>\n
