For the second year in a row, the Cherbourg Hornets have taken home the “There\u2019s No Excuse For Domestic Abuse\u201d shield at Murgon Mustangs’ big Domestic Violence Awareness round of games played on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The annual A Grade game between the Hornets and Murgon Mustangs aims to cast a spotlight on domestic violence in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

It was accompanied by a full-day of junior games played across seven fields at Murgon Sportsground, ensuring a big turnout of youngsters who were also exposed to positive messages.<\/p>\n

This year’s Domestic Violence Awareness round also included rep games by the U15s, U16s and U17s South Burnett Eagles and another A Grade game, between Kingaroy and Wondai.<\/p>\n

The main game began with Murgon and Cherbourg players kneeling during a minute’s silence for the victims of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

It was a big day for the Murgon Mustangs club, but not so great a day on the field for their A Graders with Cherbourg running out winners 62-10 after leading 30-0 at half-time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cherbourg even rubbed salt into the wound in the first half by scoring while they had a player in the sin-bin for a lifting tackle.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg tries were scored by Rahcine Doyle (3), Keith Gadd Jnr (2), Fred Cobbo, Daron Saltner-Bligh, Barry Tapau-Fewquandie, Vincent Law, Norman Wragge and Jonathan Walsh. Daron Saltner-Bligh kicked nine conversions.<\/p>\n

Murgon try scorers were Lehman Brunjes and Bronson Aubrey.\u00a0 Chris Bond kicked one conversion.<\/p>\n

In the second A Grade game, played under lights, Kingaroy proved too strong for the Wondai Wolves, downing them 42-14 after leading 36-2 at half-time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wondai put the first points on the board, after Kingaroy gave away a penalty in front of the posts which Wolves’ kicker Torren Anderton easily despatched.<\/p>\n

But Kingaroy responded within minutes with a try to Adam Nightingale followed in quick succession by another six four-pointers before half-time.<\/p>\n

Two tries in the second half by Wondai made the scoreline more respectable.<\/p>\n

The Wolves have a week off this round to lick their wounds.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy tries were scored by Adam Nightingale, Ryan McDonald, Blake Augustine, Harry Sterling, Toby Schmidt, Cory Neal, Lachlan Price and Sata Tale. Harry Sterling kicked five conversions.<\/p>\n

Wondai try scorers were Mesulame Suqe Verenasau and Conan Holding. Torren Anderton kicked two conversions and one penalty goal.<\/p>\n

Shamus Cobbo, brother of Broncos’ star Selwyn, scored a hattrick of tries for the South Burnett Eagles in their Under 17s Toowoomba Junior Rugby League game, played before the A Grade double-header at Murgon.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Eagles defeated Toowoomba Brothers 36-10 after leading 18-0 at half-time.<\/p>\n

South Burnett try scorers were Shamus Cobbo (3), Tito Bligh (2), Charlie Sippel and Harrison Braithwaite. Jack Webber (2), Liam Irwin and Tito Bligh were the goal kickers<\/p>\n
