Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington says she has been given a behind-the-scenes insight into the important role the timber industry plays in the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington joined with staff from HQ Plantations to inspect local plantations and to meet local businesses who form a major part of the timber supply chain.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had the opportunity to get a glimpse into the many facets of our local timber industry, from planting, to harvest and milling,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese guys might be quiet achievers, but the importance of timber in our region when it comes to employment and economic input cannot be underestimated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was really pleased to meet with three local business, Blackbutt Logging, K&S Contracting and Pro-Pine, all of which play a key role in producing the timber and timber products we rely on.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of these businesses are an integral part of our local communities, employing local people, and I\u2019d like to thank them for taking the time to meet with me and highlight the work they do.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe timber industry played a pioneering role in the development of the South Burnett region, and it is good to know the industry continues to be a key economic driver today.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was also fascinating to learn more about the Araucaria pine species (hoop pines) grown by HQ Plantations, and the fact that it is rainforest species endemic to our region.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should all be extremely proud of this amazing local tree species which is drought, pest and disease-resistant, along with producing a knot-free, high strength timber product.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe block of Araucaria I saw being harvested had been planted about 40-50 years ago and will go on to become anything from structural timber, to floorboards, joinery, furniture, musical instruments, boats, baby cots or toys.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
