Nearly 100 people turned out on the South Burnett Rail Trail at Wondai on Sunday morning for the Mother’s Day Classic fundraiser.<\/p>\n

Most dressed in pink which has become a tradition at the annual event, which mixes fun with the deadly serious business of supporting breast cancer research.<\/p>\n

This year, funds raised will also go towards supporting research into ovarian cancer.<\/p>\n

Participants either walked or ran a choice of two routes: 4km or 8km.<\/p>\n

“A minute’s silence was held to remember those lost to breast and ovarian cancer,” Cr Ros Heit said.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Then there was a warm-up rendition of ‘Nutbush’ before the start of the walk or runs.<\/p>\n

“The community generously donated over 50 prizes for the very popular raffle including Peanuts from Bega, four hams from Swickers, wine from Taabinga Station and vouchers from Ryan’s Butchery and the Wondai Hotel”<\/p>\n

The Wondai Lions Club also cooked a sausage sizzle and donated the proceeds to the fundraiser.<\/p>\n

Similar fun runs were held at 75 locations across Australia on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett event was organised by Cr Heit, Claire Kapernick, Donna Clark, Mick Freeman and Deon McLean.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: The total amount raised on the day – from registration fees, a raffle, individual fundraising and the Lions Club barbecue – was $5642.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
