South Burnett Regional Council held a workshop “on the road” in Proston this week.<\/p>\n

A Council spokesperson said it was part of an initiative to connect with all pockets of the region by taking meetings on-the-road<\/p>\n

Councillors and executive staff visited Proston\u2019s Community Kitchen and local works depot on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson said the aim of the workshops was to tackle issues such as road maintenance, water infrastructure, budget planning and also provide an opportunity for direct community consultation with Council\u2019s leadership team.<\/p>\n

The Proston Community Kitchen was awarded a $1000 grant recently from Council, auspiced by the Proston & District Lions Club.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mayor Kathy Duff praised the group for their hard work and noted that they had done great work with the funding.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Community Grants program is there to help local not-for-profits and clubs and we\u2019ve supported a worthy cause in Proston\u2019s Community Kitchen,\u201d Mayor Duff said.<\/p>\n

The councillors also met long-serving Council staff member Lenny and his staff at the Proston Depot, inspecting the problems with the local roads network firsthand.<\/p>\n

The Depot covers a network extending more than 70km from Proston to the northern boundary of the council region.<\/p>\n

Mayor Duff said the day had been “a fantastic learning experience” for the new Council team.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople like Lenny and his team know their areas better than anyone; it\u2019s hard to top local knowledge,” Mayor Duff said.<\/p>\n
