Preliminary work has begun on the new $1.3 billion Toowoomba Hospital being built at the Baillie Henderson campus.<\/p>\n

Health Minister Sharon Fentiman turned the first sod on the project last week.<\/p>\n

The new Toowoomba Hospital will have 118 extra overnight beds, as well as more beds and treatment spaces across medical, surgical, maternity, intensive care and coronary care.<\/p>\n

There will be more emergency treatment spaces as well as medical imaging, pharmacy and pathology services; and administration, education and training facilities for hospital staff.<\/p>\n

More concept drawings of the hospital were released last week (see below).<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Queensland Health spokesperson said construction was expected to support more than 3000 local jobs.<\/p>\n

Completion is planned for the second half of 2027.<\/p>\n

“The new Toowoomba Hospital will increase our capacity and capability in providing care to our diverse communities,” Darling Downs Health Board chair Dr Dennis Campbell said.<\/p>\n

Services at the Baillie Henderson campus will remain open while the building works are under way, including the new $42 million Bunya Day surgery.<\/p>\n

The Day Surgery is equipped to perform simple procedures that eliminate the need for overnight hospital stays<\/p>\n

Queensland Health says the existing Toowoomba Hospital site in Pechey Street will remain operational after the new hospital opens, with acute services moving to the new site.<\/p>\n
