April 30, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n

World War II veteran Alfred \u201cMick\u201d Purser turned 101 recently but that couldn’t stop him from attending Anzac Day commemorations at Murgon last week.<\/p>\n

Mick, as he’s better known, has been a regular at the Murgon event all his life.<\/p>\n

He enlisted in the RAAF on August 25, 1941, and after training as a pilot, flew DC-3s from Australia to Papua New Guinea.<\/p>\n

After he was discharged in 1946, Mick returned to Murgon to complete his apprenticeship as a mechanic.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He became well-known as the owner of the Murgon Garage and later took over the local school bus runs.<\/p>\n

Along the way, he also served on Murgon Shire Council.<\/p>\n

Mick sold Pursers Coaches to Harvy Dascombe in 1996.<\/p>\n

These days, Mick resides at Southern Cross Care (Castra) in Murgon but still keeps up with local events.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He was a special guest at this year’s Murgon Centenary Show in March.<\/p>\n

Staff put on a special morning tea for Mick and his friends on April 19 to mark his birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
