Queensland is the last participating jurisdiction to come under the authority of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) will take over responsibility for heavy vehicle on-road compliance in Queensland from Saturday (April 20).<\/p>\n

It will also handle enforcement and Programmed Vehicle Inspections.<\/p>\n

State Transport Minister Bart Mellish said the transition promised a streamlined approach to regulation across Australia.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Department of Transport and Main Roads has been working closely with the NHVR to ensure a seamless transition of heavy vehicle regulatory services,” Minister Mellish said.<\/p>\n

He said the transport industry now had a single-point of interaction for consistent information about Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and any issues they faced as drivers or businesses.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe look forward to the productivity and safety benefits of having a single regulator for the heavy vehicle industry, with Queensland the final participating jurisdiction to transfer these regulatory services to the NHVR,” Minister Mellish said.<\/p>\n

NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto OAM said the transition would mean a “renewed on-road presence across Queensland, particularly in regional and remote areas\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur new operations head office is located in Townsville, expanding our reach and enabling us to boost compliance and improve road safety outcomes in North Queensland,” he said.<\/p>\n
