April 16, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rugby League is kicking off for 2024 in the South Burnett this weekend with the start of junior games, however there are some big changes ahead for this year.<\/p>\n

Under 14s games will be played on Friday nights (except for contests involving Chinchilla, which will be played on Saturdays).<\/p>\n

In the A Grade competition – which will begin a week later – the Nanango Stags have returned … which means there will be five teams competing this year.<\/b><\/p>\n

Sadly, there’s some disappointing news for other teams.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Eagles Under 13s and Under 15s girls teams have missed out on spots in the Toowoomba JRL.<\/p>\n

And the South Burnett Under 18s boys won’t be competing in the Bundaberg JRL competition.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett will have an Under 17s boys team in the TJRL, and there will be Under 15s and Under 16s teams in the Bundaberg comp, which potentially means lots of travelling for some families.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg and Wondai will also have Open women’s sides in the Wide Bay Women’s competition.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg will be fielding an Under 17s Girls team.<\/p>\n

All games will be played at Cherbourg’s Jack O’Chin Oval:<\/strong><\/p>\n

FRIDAY (Under 14s)<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • 5:30pm – Murgon v Wondai<\/li>\n
  • 6:30pm – Cherbourg v Kingaroy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    SATURDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n

    • Under 6s from 8:00am<\/li>\n
    • Under 8s from 9:20am<\/li>\n
    • Under 10s from 8:00am<\/li>\n
    • Under 12s from 11:20am<\/li>\n
    • 2:00pm – Under 14s – Nanango v Chinchilla<\/li>\n
    • 3:00pm – Under 17s Girls – Cherbourg v Bundaberg<\/li>\n
    • 4:30pm – Open Women – Cherbourg v Bundaberg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      SUNDAY (in Maryborough):<\/strong><\/p>\n

      • 1:30pm – Open Women – Wondai v Fraser Coast<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        The South Burnett’s A Grade men’s competition will start a week later, on April 27.<\/strong><\/p>\n

        Nanango Stags are back for 2024, meaning there will be a double-header played at a venue every weekend, with one team having a bye.<\/p>\n

        In Round 1, Cherbourg will take on Nanango, while last year’s premiers the Red Ants will play Wondai at Kingaroy’s T.J. O’Neill Oval.<\/p>\n

        Murgon will have the bye.<\/p>\n

        Some important dates for rugby league fans to put in their diaries for this year:<\/strong><\/p>\n

        • July 13<\/strong> – South Burnett will be hosting the 47th Battalion games in Kingaroy; local players will be part of the Burnett Brahmans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            \n
          • July 20<\/strong> – The annual Mini Mods Carnival will be at Wondai Sportsground<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
              \n
            • August 24<\/strong> – A Grade and U14 Grand Finals will at held at Wondai Sportsground<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
