South Burnett Regional Council has given development approval to five projects that could help transform the Kingaroy and Wondai CBDs.<\/p>\n

On March 28, Council approved an application by Jamptock Pty Ltd to demolish the derelict Broadway Hotel in Kingaroy Street and erect a modern, two-storey building.<\/p>\n

A hotel and bottleshop would be on the ground floor with 18 two- and three-bedroom short-term accommodation units on the first floor.<\/p>\n

The development would also take in an adjoining block at 14-16 Glendon Street, currently occupied by a house and shed which would be demolished.<\/p>\n

The Broadway Hotel building dates to 1937 but has been vacant since it stopped trading several years ago.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Parts of it were extensively damaged by fires in 2022 and 2023.<\/p>\n

The site is located next to a former row of dilapidated shops which were demolished last year, eliminating one of Kingaroy CBD’s biggest eyesores.<\/p>\n

At present, this adjoining block now sits empty while its owners consider future uses for the site.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Country Motel in Knight Street has been given approval to add an extra 10 units to its existing 20-unit motel at 32-36 Knight Street.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The expansion would entail the demolition or removal of an adjoining building on the corner of Pound Street.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the motel said the expansion was being driven by demand from workers employed on local renewable energy projects.<\/p>\n

No firm date has been set for construction but it is expected work on the project will proceed as soon as it is practical.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council has also given approval for the construction of a 14-unit, short-term accommodation complex at at the corner of Harris Road and Hodge Street in Kingaroy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The site will be landscaped and guests will not be allowed to check in – or use outdoor decks and patios – between 10:00pm and 6:00am to minimise noise for nearby residents.<\/p>\n

The site is owned by Peppertree Cabins and the complex will extend its current accommodation offerings.<\/p>\n

E.E. Muir and Sons – which operates an agricultural supplies store at 107 River Road in Kingaroy – has been given approval to add a fertiliser processing plant to their site.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new plant is expected to produce up to 1000 tonnes of fertiliser per year once it becomes fully operational.<\/p>\n

The site formerly occupied by Mick Boisen’s store in Haly Street, Wondai – and an adjoining rear property at 72 Edward Street – are set to become a modern retail area.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr Boisen died in August 2010, aged 89. A portion of his former building is currently occupied by Tillo’s Antiques and Collectables which plans to close in early May.<\/p>\n

Wondai Property Holdings Pty Ltd has been given development approval by the SBRC to clear the site and build a modern retail store with 30 car parks at the rear along with four short-stay parking bays at the front of the site.<\/p>\n

The development is the latest approved for Haly Street, following a 2022 plan to build a service station and food and drink outlet on the block next door.<\/p>\n

This project was approved by the SBRC in October 2022 subject to a range of conditions, some of which were subsequently disputed by the developer, VB 1888 Pty Ltd, and are still in mediation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
