The South Burnett Gem and Fossicking Club\u2019s fifth annual gem show attracted a keen crowd of collectors and gem enthusiasts to Wondai Sportsground at the weekend.<\/p>\n

Wet weather earlier in the week had threatened to derail the event but didn’t seem to dampen any enthusiasm for the two-day show.<\/p>\n

The gem show was officially opened on Saturday morning by South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff, Deputy Mayor Danita Potter and Cr Ros Heit.<\/p>\n

Parts of the sportsgrounds area were roped off to prevent damage to the softened ground, but the Wondai Lions Club Pavilion was packed with stalls.<\/p>\n

The “fossicking” area, where children could find mini thundereggs, was as popular as ever.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Club members were cutting and polishing the small stones to reveal their colourful interiors.<\/p>\n

Lions Club members were also kept busy at the canteen and barbecue area.<\/p>\n

This is the third time the annual event has been held in Wondai.<\/p>\n

It attracts everyone from amateur geologists and jewellery makers to people keen to investigate the “power” of crystals.<\/p>\n
