{"id":34621,"date":"2013-05-28T21:00:45","date_gmt":"2013-05-28T11:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=34621"},"modified":"2020-09-18T13:16:17","modified_gmt":"2020-09-18T03:16:17","slug":"new-schools-app-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2013\/05\/28\/new-schools-app-released\/","title":{"rendered":"New Schools App Released"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_34777\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34777\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/qschools.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34777\" title=\"QSchools\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/qschools.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/qschools.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/qschools-236x300.jpg 236w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34777\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The new QSchools app<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>May 28, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The State Government has released a new phone app to allow parents to instantly be alerted to news and events at their child\u2019s school &#8211; \u00a0such as swimming carnival dates, free dress days, head lice breakouts and P&amp;C meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek launched the free QSchools app yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDesigned to integrate with the &#8216;Websites for Schools&#8217; platform, the app lets users receive newsletters and up-to-the-minute information to their handsets as soon as it is posted to their favourite school\u2019s websites,\u201d Mr Langbroek said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe QSchools app provides an additional, convenient way of engaging with parents and the community using a technology that most of us carry every day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe listened to schools which said they wanted new ways to communicate with parents, so the Department of Education, Training and Employment started development on the app in December.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe QSchools app is also a vital tool in emergency situations, sending instant notifications of natural disasters like flood alerts or illness causing school closures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Langbroek said while face-to-face interaction with parents and caregivers was an integral part of schooling, being able to provide information in this way allowed immediate access to important school news and events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be particularly useful to parents who have students in different schools, as the app manages updates from multiple schools in a single view,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>All State schools are searchable using the app which provides location and contact information.<\/p>\n<p>Currently more than 500 schools are using the &#8220;Websites for Schools&#8221; platform, which synchronises with the QSchools app.<\/p>\n<p>Another 300 Queensland schools are currently updating their websites or planning to adopt the same platform, giving parents from an estimated 800 schools access to the QSchools app by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>The QSchools app is available for free download from the iTunes store for Apple devices, and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=au.gov.qld.dete.wfs.queenslandschools\" target=\"_blank\">Google Play store<\/a><\/strong> for Android-compatible devices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The State Government has released a new phone app to allow parents to instantly be alerted to news and events at their child\u2019s school &#8211;  such as swimming carnival dates, free dress days, head lice breakouts and P&#038;C meetings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":34777,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,395],"tags":[35],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
