The South Burnett’s 2024 show season kicked off last Saturday with the 66th annual Proston Show.<\/p>\n

As always, there was a strong turnout of cattle – with owners prepping for Beef Week in May – with a special feature this year on Brangus.<\/p>\n

Proston Show Society treasurer Mitch l’Estrange said the Show Society had aimed to create a “family friendly” day where people would be encouraged to stay all day and then enjoy the evening entertainment.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Something new was the cost of amusement rides … instead of paying for individual rides, parents could buy a $10 ticket to allow their children to have unlimited rides all day.<\/p>\n

Mitch said he believed the strategy had worked as by early afternoon all the canteen’s hamburgers had been sold out.<\/p>\n

The night-time entertainment included fireworks and a live concert by popular country musicians Dean Perrett and Paul Ricketts.<\/p>\n

All the other rural show favourites were also happening at Proston, including chainsaw racing, wood-chopping, equestrian events (and a stockhorse challenge) and a\u00a0 packed pavilion.<\/p>\n

Don’t forget, Murgon’s special Centenary Show is on this Saturday (March 16).<\/strong><\/p>\n

And if you attended the rodeo on Friday night – and kept your wristband – entry will be free on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Also, keep your eyes out for a TV film crew.<\/p>\n

A crew from the ABC-TV show “Back Roads” will be attending to film a segment for one of their upcoming episodes.<\/p>\n
