Voting began on Monday … but we don’t mean just for the local Council elections!<\/p>\n

Voting also began at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery for the People’s Choice Award at the prestigious David Bryce Award rural art competition.<\/p>\n

Sixty-three entries are now on show at the gallery, interpreting different aspects of rural life.<\/p>\n

The biennial competition\u00a0is open to artists who live in rural or regional Australia.<\/p>\n

Entries must feature a current rural scene, person or activity rather than an historic depiction of earlier times.<\/p>\n

The competition began in 2018 to honour the memory of pioneering South Burnett artist David Bryce.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bryce was one of the region’s most respected and prolific artists, who continued to produce works right up to his death in August 2000.<\/p>\n

Many of his artworks are now included in local private collections, as well in the South Burnett Regional Council\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n

The 2018 and 2020 competitions attracted a mix of paintings and sculptures, however the 2022 competition was limited to photographic entries only.<\/p>\n

This year all media have again been accepted with a special category for photography.<\/p>\n

Entrants are competing for cash prizes, including $2200 for the overall winner.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Section category winners will each receive $500,\u00a0including the People’s Choice Award winner voted on by visitors to the gallery.<\/p>\n

Votes can be lodged at the gallery this week (open 10:00am to 4:00pm) and up until 5:30pm on Friday.<\/p>\n

All competition winners will be announced at a special awards night celebration from 6:00pm on Friday (March 8).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
