A funeral will be held in Murgon next week for former Murgon Shire Councillor – and South Burnett Lifetime Achievement Award winner – Col Sippel, 95, who died on February 20.<\/p>\n

The funeral will be held at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorn Street from 10:00am on February 29.<\/p>\n

Col was presented with the Achievement Award at the South Burnett Regional Council’s 2017 Australia Day awards after a lifetime of service to the Murgon community.<\/p>\n

On Australia Day the same year, he was presented with the Murgon Business and Development Association’s Senior Ambassador Award.<\/p>\n

Col served on Murgon Shire Council for 25 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During this time, he played a key role in establishing the Graham House Community Centre and served as its committee president for almost 30 years.<\/p>\n

He was also a foundation member of the Queensland Dairy and Heritage Museum, was active in the Murgon Lions Club for more than four decades, a member of the Murgon Church Council for half a century and served on the the board of Castra for many years.<\/p>\n

Unlike many other Sippels, cricket wasn’t his thing … he told a reporter back in 2017 that he played tennis “day and night” until he turned 60.<\/p>\n

Col’s wife Joyce died in September 2015, aged 88.<\/p>\n

The couple had two sons, Greg and Warren (deceased).<\/p>\n
