The Queensland Dairy & Heritage Museum hosted Murgon’s traditional Australia Day event on Friday.<\/p>\n

It is an opportunity to recognise local citizens who have received Council awards this year as well as other local achievers.<\/p>\n

Museum president Cynthia Hatchett welcomed visitors before a flag-raising conducted by Trevor Sanderson from the Murgon RSL Sub-Branch.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker was Selwyn Maller, from the Phat Wag, who spoke about his family’s life on the land and the establishment of the wagyu meat industry in Australia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Selwyn and his wife Jocelyn bought their first fullblood wagyu heifers in 1998. They now market their beef both in Australia and internationally to more than 20 countries.<\/p>\n

The Goomeri Chrome Bumpers car club also supported the event, bringing along a display of vehicles which parked in a row in the museum grounds.<\/p>\n

A highlight of the day is always the presentation of the Murgon Business and Development Association (MBDA) awards.<\/p>\n

Recently elected MBDA president Amy Wicks and senior vice-president Lanse Rea made a special presentation to Leo Geraghty OAM and Margaret Long for their long involvement with the MBDA.<\/p>\n
