Two local councils picked up awards at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (Queensland Northern Territory) annual conference held on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

Western Downs Regional Council won the 2023 President\u2019s Award for the Bunya Mountains Mountain Bike Trails project.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads received the prestigious 2023 Project of the Year Excellence Award for the Kingaroy Transformation Project (KTP).<\/p>\n

IPWEA-QNT is a professional association supporting members employed in public works and engineering services in Queensland and the Northern Territory.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council says the the KTP is officially now one of the leading infrastructure projects in regional Australia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Delivered in partnership between the Australian Government, Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and South Burnett Regional Council, the once dilapidated Kingaroy town centre has truly transformed into a shared community and business space boasting modern infrastructure, inclusive accessibility and has placed the South Burnett at the forefront of \u2018Smart Country\u2019 precincts,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Remarkably, despite construction occurring during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, record rainfall including five consecutive disaster-declared events, and record high inflation levels of 17 per cent to 30 per cent, KTP was delivered with only a 7 per cent increase over three years.<\/p>\n

“The project was funded with approximately $4.5 million from the Australian Government, $2.68 million from TMR and $10.46 million from Council.”<\/p>\n

The KTP included 52km of a concealed conduit network to every powered street fixture, lantern and street light “to deliver a future of ‘Internet Of Things’ (IoT) technology, including designated network for deployed NBN enterprise ethernet, future ‘dark fibre’ and telecommunication capability of up 3.4Petabits per second.”<\/p>\n

Acting Mayor Gavin Jones said Council was particularly proud that the project has injected more than $6 million directly into the local economy through local businesses.<\/p>\n
