Santa Claus made his way safely to Murgon, despite the change of venue for the Christmas Carnival<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Murgon Christmas Carnival’s shift to the showgrounds on Friday night may have broken with tradition, but Santa didn’t get lost … much to the delight of local children.<\/p>\n

The Murgon Business and Development Association decided to bring back the carnival for 2023 but with a smaller, more family-friendly feel at the showgrounds.<\/p>\n

So instead of the big – and expensive – carnival rides there were jumping castles and a mini-train, courtesy of the Murgon and Fraser Coast Apex clubs.<\/p>\n

The children seemed to be just as excited as ever, especially when the man in the big red suit arrived on the back of a big fire engine.<\/p>\n

Santa had another important job to do in Murgon on Friday night, ie. judge the winners of the decorated Christmas Tree competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Twenty-two potted trees from the Chrissy Trees 4U farm at Benair were decorated during the day by volunteers from local schools, businesses and community groups.<\/p>\n

Santa, along with his helpers Margaret Long and Reagen Lee, judged the trees in two categories: Schools and Community.<\/p>\n

The winners were: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Schools<\/strong> – 1. Wheatlands State School 2. Murgon State School P&C 3. Cherbourg State School<\/p>\n

Community<\/strong> – 1. Murgon Hospital Auxiliary 2. Cr Kathy Duff 3. South Burnett PCYC<\/p>\n

The trees were auctioned off later in the evening, with the proceeds going to local not-for-profit groups.<\/p>\n

After the important Christmas Tree judging,\u00a0Santa stepped back outside and took up his spot on his big chair to chat to children and pose for photos.<\/p>\n

NB. Santa’s Christmas Eve schedule has also been updated, with the Wondai Christmas Carnival shifting to the Wondai Showgrounds.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
