A committee for the new Kumbia Sports and Recreation Association was elected at the inaugural AGM held at Kumbia Memorial Hall on November 9.<\/p>\n

The formation of the association follows a working group created in the town earlier this year to discuss the future of the tennis courts.<\/p>\n

Kumbia also boasts a large recreation area near the courts which is also now rarely used.<\/p>\n

The community has expressed a desire to create a larger playground and a skateboard area for local children and has now met several times to discuss proposals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new committee consists of president Tony Dugdell, secretary Belinda Reynolds, treasurer Jessica Simpkins and committee members Louis Fairbairn, Lachlan Hancock and Gordon Coward.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council has supported the formation of the committee.<\/p>\n

More than 60 local residents attended the AGM.<\/p>\n

Representatives from the Wakka Wakka PBC – the body responsible for managing Native Title land in the South Burnett region – also spoke.<\/p>\n

The next meeting of the new association will be held on December 7 at the Kumbia Hotel.<\/p>\n
