Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie is inviting small retailers to have their say on changes to the Retail Shop Leases Act 1994.<\/p>\n

Mr Bleijie today released a discussion paper as part of the statutory review of the Act which outlined options put forward by the retail sector during consultations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Act provides important protections to small retailers whose bargaining power may be outweighed by large shopping centre landlords,\u201d Mr Bleijie said.<\/p>\n

Mr Bleijie said the State Government was “committed to protecting the interests of small retail tenants” but at the same time was committed to cutting red-tape affecting Queensland business. <\/p>\n

\u201cI am releasing this paper to provide further opportunity for people to provide input to the review. The feedback we receive will inform any future changes to the Act.\u201d<\/p>\n

A reference group of key tenant, landlord and other retail leasing groups will also be established to assist the government in deciding its position on appropriate amendments to the Act.<\/p>\n
