November 14, 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n

Remembrance Day was commemorated around the region on Saturday morning with solemn events held in most towns.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy marked the 105th anniversary of the Armistice at the end of World War I with a short march to the rotunda in Memorial Park where a short commemoration service was held.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker was Sergeant Brett Purdon, an air intelligence analyst who is based at the Defence Force School of Signals at Cabarlah (see below).<\/p>\n

Sgt Purdon has also served in Timor Leste, Afghanistan and Iraq.<\/p>\n

Other speakers during the ceremony were former South Burnett mayor Keith Campbell, who led the opening prayer and benediction, and Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch president Don Davey who read The Ode.<\/p>\n

Matt Phillips played the Last Post and Reveille, and piper Ross Page played a lament as wreaths were laid on the catafalque.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy State High School’s vocal group sang ‘Amazing Grace” and the National Anthem.<\/p>\n

There were also Remembrance Day commemorations in Blackbutt, Nanango, Wondai, Murgon, Goomeri and at Boondooma Homestead.<\/p>\n
