November 9, 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n

A chance encounter at a Local Government Association of Queensland conference in Cairns last year led to a helping hand from the RACQ Foundation at Cherbourg recently.<\/p>\n

Two groups of current and former RACQ employees spent a week each at the community, helping out with jobs to help take the load off Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council.<\/p>\n

During the first week, the teams worked at archiving material at The Ration Shed museum as well as landscaping and painting at Bert Button Lookout.<\/p>\n

During the second week, they concentrated on refreshing and updating facilities at the Cherbourg football oval.<\/p>\n

RACQ Foundation chair Bronwyn Morris said the planning for the visit started a year ago after the Cairns conference.<\/p>\n

She said the Foundation and the workers were proud to be partnering with Cherbourg Council in the project.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I would like to thank the Cherbourg community for opening your hearts to us, sharing your stories and culture,” she said.<\/p>\n

“This is truly a magnificent location and we are very humbled to have this oppoertunity to work here with you.”<\/p>\n

Council CEO Chatur Zala thanked the Foundation teams for their hard work in the community.<\/p>\n
