At 3:25pm on Friday, QFES issued a LEAVE IMMEDIATELY bushfire emergency warning for Shellytop Road at Durong … this has since been downgraded to RETURN WITH CAUTION<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

October 27, 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n

At 10:07pm on Friday, QFES advised residents in the Shellytop Road area at Durong they could RETURN WITH CAUTION.<\/p>\n

The alert was downgraded from the earlier LEAVE IMMEDIATELY warning.<\/p>\n

EARLIER:<\/strong><\/p>\n

At 3:25pm on Friday, QFES issued a LEAVE IMMEDIATELY bushfire emergency warning for Shellytop Road at Durong.<\/p>\n

The warning was repeated at 6:28pm and 7:36pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fire broke out just after 1:00pm.<\/p>\n

At 5:00pm, there were 12 fire crews on site.<\/p>\n

The warning area covers Shellytop Road, between Mundubbera-Durong Road and Chinchilla-Wondai Road.<\/p>\n

A QFES spokesperson said a large, fast-moving fire was burning near Chinchilla-Wondai Road.<\/p>\n

It was expected to impact Shellytop Road very soon.<\/p>\n

LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. Your life could be at risk. It will soon be too dangerous to drive.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 LEAVE IMMEDIATELY and follow your bushfire survival plan now.
\n\u2013 Go to a place away from the Emergency Warning area. Plan how you will get there. Tell others where you are going.
\n– Avoid driving on Chinchilla-Wondai Road.
\n\u2013 Check for road closures before you leave at the\u00a0Qld Traffic website<\/b><\/a>\u00a0or call 13-19-40.
\n\u2013 Wear protective clothing and stay hydrated.
\n\u2013 Keep medications close by.
\n\u2013 Stay informed.
\n\u2013 Keep checking the\u00a0QFES Current Bushfires and Warnings<\/a><\/b>\u00a0website
\n\u2013 Follow QFES on Facebook and Twitter.
\n\u2013 Listen to your local radio station.
\n\u2013 Do not fly drones around the fire. Drones affect air operations.<\/p>\n

Impacts:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 Properties have been impacted.
\n\u2013 Firefighters may not be able to stop the fire from getting closer. Don\u2019t expect a firefighter at your door.
\n\u2013 Power, water and mobile phone services may stop working soon.
\n\u2013 Smoke will make it hard to see and breathe. The smoke will sting your eyes.
\n\u2013 It will be hot and loud. You may hear explosions nearby.
\n\u2013 The sky will be dark.
\n\u2013 You could be isolated.<\/p>\n

If you can\u2019t leave safely:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 Turn garden sprinklers on to soak the ground.
\n\u2013 Bring doormats and outdoor furniture inside or away from the house.
\n\u2013 Block downpipes at the top and fill gutters with water if you can.
\n\u2013 Find a safe place to shelter, preferably inside a brick building.
\n\u2013 Close windows, doors and vents.
\n\u2013 Seal gaps under doors and windows with wet towels.
\n\u2013 Fill containers with water for drinking and firefighting.
\n\u2013 Bring pets inside. Give them water to drink. Keep them safe.<\/p>\n
