FLASHBACK: Wet weather forced the 2022 South Burnett Relay For Life inside Kingaroy Town Hall but it still managed to raise almost $120,000<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

October 6, 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s time again for the annual South Burnett Relay For Life fundraiser for Cancer Council Queensland … but it’s at a new venue!<\/p>\n

T.J. O’Neill Oval (ie. the home of the Kingaroy Red Ants in Youngman Street) will be hosting this year’s event on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Again, it won’t be running overnight but all the other usual activities will be taking place.<\/p>\n

The opening ceremony will start at 2:00pm, followed by the Survivors’ Walk, led by this year’s Face Of Relay Dennis Cotter.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dennis is a prostate cancer survivor and is committed to raising awareness and helping others beat cancer.<\/p>\n

He was diagnosed at age 67 but is grateful that he had been cautious and had regular checkups from the age of 50 and annual tests after he turned 60.<\/p>\n

\u201cI strongly encourage everyone out there \u2013 especially from the age of 60 \u2013 to go and get full blood tests and your regular check-up,\u201d Mr Cotter said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the problem, we don\u2019t listen to our bodies, it will tell us when something is wrong, so please go and get your check-up. If you\u2019re early, you can beat it.\u201d<\/p>\n

At 6:30pm, the Candlelight Ceremony will be held which remembers family members and friends who have lost their lives to cancer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The organising committee is hoping to raise $115,000 with all funds going towards cancer research, prevention programs and support services.<\/p>\n

They look set to bust that target, with more than $112,000 already raised, including a massive $41,372 from the Ride 4 Relay cycle trek.<\/p>\n

More dollars will also be coming in from the “Cattle For A Cure” auction of two heifers on October 10 at the Murgon Sale Yards.<\/p>\n
