A series of wreaths were laid during the service at the foot of the altar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Police from across the South Burnett joined community members at Nanango’s Uniting Church on Friday to mark National Police Remembrance Day.<\/p>\n

The service was led by police chaplain John Selwood and the Rev Dr Peter Hall, from the Uniting Church.<\/p>\n

Acting Inspector Brett Everest, Officer-in-Charge at Murgon Police, read the Commissioner of Police’s address.<\/p>\n

He noted that 150 Queensland police had paid the ultimate sacrifice over the years.<\/p>\n

Nanango Officer-in-Charge Sergeant Luke Jackson and Nanango administration officer Janelle Wendt read the Roll of Honour.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Special mention was made this year of nine officers whose anniversaries had fallen: Cadet Inspector Mark Beresford (died 140 years\u00a0ago), Constable William Dwyer (130 years), Constable James Sangster (130 years), Constable Patrick McCabe (110 years), Constable Robert Kyle (90 years), Constable Michael Howard (70 years), Senior Constable Cecil Bagley (60 years) and Constable Casey Blaine (10 years).<\/p>\n

A local name on the list was that of former Officer-in-Charge at Yarraman, Senior Sergeant Perry Irwin, who was shot dead at Caboolture 20 years ago.<\/p>\n

It was noted that the names of three officers had been added to the National Police Memorial in Canberra: Queenslanders Constable Matthew Arnold and Constable Rachel McCrow (who were murdered at Wieambilla in December 2022) and West Australian officer Constable Anthony Woods who was run down during an attempted traffic stop in June this year.<\/p>\n

Serving police officers and staff members who had died during the past 12 months from across Queensland were also honoured.<\/p>\n
