South Burnett winemakers walked away with a swag of medals at this year’s Queensland Wine Awards.<\/p>\n

The winners were announced at a special dinner held at The Star Hotel in Brisbane last week.<\/p>\n

Nuova Scuola took out the Champion Of Show award for its NV Fortified Verdelho, and Clovely Estate won a top gold medal for its 2014 Terroir Semillion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The annual awards, now in their 39th year, are run by the Queensland Wine Industry Association and judged by a panel of interstate and overseas winemakers.<\/p>\n

They are limited to wines produced in Queensland to discover the best wines the State has to offer each year.<\/p>\n

However, the event now allows winemakers to submit wines produced in Queensland from grapes grown outside the State on the proviso these wines will only be eligible for medals, not trophies.<\/p>\n

Most of the State’s leading wineries submitted wines for the competition.<\/p>\n

In all, judges evaluated 218 entries across 21 classes, with Clovely Estate, Moffatdale Ridge, Nuova Scuola and Hillsdale Estate all receiving medals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition to its top Gold medal, Clovely Estate won two silver medals and four bronzes.<\/p>\n

Moffatdale Ridge secured three silver medals, and Nuova Scuola a gold, two silvers and a bronze, while Hillsdale Estate received two bronzes.<\/p>\n
