Kingaroy Hospital nurse Belinda Densley has been named as Queensland’s Credentialled Diabetes Educator of the Year, just three years after taking up the specialty.<\/p>\n

Belinda\u2019s win was announced at the 2023 Australasian Diabetes Congress which was held at the Adelaide Convention Centre in late August.<\/p>\n

Credentialled Diabetes Educators work closely with patients to deliver a personalised approach to diabetes education, care and management.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Every person that comes to see me is given warmth, encouragement and a safe place to be open about their diabetes concerns,” Belinda said.<\/p>\n

“I work alongside patients, providing guidance, support and most importantly encouragement that they can make changes to not only improve their diabetes, but also their lifestyle and mental well being as well.”<\/p>\n

Belinda began her nursing career 23 years ago but only discovered her passion for working with diabetics in recent times.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I became a Credentialed Diabetes Educator in 2020, moved to Kingaroy, and began engaging with clients from all walks of life,” Belinda said.<\/p>\n

“I am honoured that people in my community felt that I held the values and knowledge to be nominated for the CDE of the Year for Queensland.”<\/p>\n

Gaye Binns, Darling Downs Health’s Director of Nursing at Kingaroy Hospital, said the award was a testament to Belinda\u2019s dedication and expertise. <\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are all so proud of Belinda winning this award,” Gaye said.<\/p>\n

“Belinda goes above and beyond to provide the necessary tools, knowledge, and encouragement to patients, enabling them to live a fulfilling life.”<\/p>\n

In addition to the award, Belinda has been given $1000 in scholarship funds to further her professional development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
