Gardeners took advantage of the perfect Spring weather at the weekend to flock to the two-day Wondai Garden Expo.<\/p>\n

Stallholders told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> that Saturday morning was especially busy, with crowds flocking in as soon as the gates opened.<\/p>\n

By Saturday afternoon, the rush had settled down but Wondai Garden Expo Committee vice-president Peter Biltoft, who was manning the gate, said a steady stream was still coming in.<\/p>\n

“There’s been a couple of thousand so far. It’s been an excellent Saturday and we’re looking forward to an even better Sunday,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Spring Expo featured about 100 stalls, selling everything from garden ornaments and metal signs to shrubs, fruit trees and ornamental flowers of every variety.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stalls stretched around the oval as well as inside the Lions Pavilion where a flower show was being run by the Wondai Garden Club.<\/p>\n

The Expo was officially opened on Saturday morning by Acting Mayor Gavin Jones with assistance from Crs Kathy Duff and Scott Henschen.<\/p>\n

There were guest speakers rostered on in the open, undercover area on both days, including Penny Hegarty, from the Maleny Garden Club, who shared her tips; Earthfood founder Bronwyn Holm, and Earthlife general manager Colin Purnell.<\/p>\n

The winners of the Best Stall competition were announced on Sunday: Glenwood Palms 1st; Brett’s Backyard 2nd; and Everything Chicken 3rd.<\/p>\n

The blustery conditions on Friday caused some headaches for stallholders setting up their gazebos but the wind had dropped and the sun had come out to greet visitors by Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Wondai Garden Expo Committee’s next event will be the Autumn Expo, which will be held on April 20-21 next year.<\/strong><\/p>\n
