A South Burnett resident has launched a petition in a bid to get the State Government to upgrade Kingaroy-Barkers Creek Road.<\/p>\n

The petition, by Carol Kemp from Wattle Camp, has been sponsored by Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington.<\/p>\n

The official E-petition reads:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Queensland residents draw to the attention of the House the busy Kingaroy-Barkers Creek Road (Main Road No 4202), which provides a key connection between Kingaroy and Burnett Highway, and the three dangerous single-lane sections on this road. <\/em><\/p>\n

These sections are in a very poor condition with rough, steep edges, making it unsafe for the many drivers using this road.<\/em><\/p>\n

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the State Government to upgrade the three single-lane sections of Kingaroy-Barkers Creek Road to a two-lane standard.<\/em><\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said she was pleased to support the petition to advocate for funding to fix the road.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cKingaroy-Barkers Creek Road is a really busy, key connection road between Kingaroy and the Burnett Highway and it is obvious the single-lane sections need to be widened to a two-lane standard,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe road is in a very poor condition, with rough, steep edges and it is unsafe for the increasing number of vehicles using this route.<\/p>\n

\u201cChas and Carol (Kemp) have been highlighting their concerns with me about the state of the road for several years and have shared stories about near misses and damage to their car\u2019s tyres and windscreen.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2021, I asked the Minister for Transport and Main Roads when funding would be allocated to Kingaroy-Barkers Creek Road but the request fell on deaf ears.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, it seems these roads are never a priority for this State Government, with a chronic neglect of State-controlled roads across our region.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut this time we\u2019re hoping a petition will shine a spotlight on the community\u2019s concerns about Kingaroy-Barkers Creek Road and how unsafe it has become.”<\/p>\n

The petition was posted on August 31 and remains open for signatures until November 24.<\/strong><\/p>\n

By Monday afternoon,\u00a0 263 people had signed the petition.<\/p>\n
