A Telstra spokesperson has warned there will be some temporary outages – or reductions in mobile coverage – while it upgrades its mobile network in Kingaroy next week.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson said the upgrades would temporarily affect Telstra mobile coverage between September 4-10.<\/p>\n

“Telstra mobile customers have been sent text messages advising them of the upcoming work,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Landline services, NBN internet services and mobile coverage from other providers will not be impacted.<\/p>\n

“Any calls to Triple Zero from a Telstra mobile when the site is off air will automatically be diverted to any working mobile network for connection to emergency services.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Telstra Regional General Manager May Boisen said crews needed to work during daylight for safety.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ll only be switching off the site when we need to and have it back on as quickly as possible,” Ms Boisen said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are working to deliver improved coverage and capacity to the region, as our customers\u2019 data use continues to grow.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile mobile coverage will decline during the works, we\u2019ll work to keep the amount of time the site is off air to an absolute minimum.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s never a good time to undertake this sort of work but once it is completed, it will mean better mobile services for local residents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nanango residents have been vocal on social media recently after upgrades to the Telstra network there disrupted services for several days.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The upgrades are believed to be linked to the closure next year of the 3G network.<\/p>\n

Telstra’s tips for improving connectivity while works are under way:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

For mobile coverage in the interim, if residents have access to a wi-fi signal at home or at work, Telstra encourages residents to activate wi-fi calling.<\/p>\n

This is a free setting on most popular mobile phones and allows mobiles to use a wi-fi network to make and receive mobile calls.<\/p>\n

To find out more, Google “Telstra wifi calling” or just search in the phone’s settings.<\/p>\n

Telstra understands many businesses use its network for their EFTPOS terminals.<\/p>\n

However, Telstra does not operate the EFTPOS network; it is operated by financial institutions.<\/p>\n

Many EFTPOS terminals can also be connected using fixed line or wi-fi\/nbn internet connections.<\/p>\n

Retailers should contact their bank for more information and details on how to switch between these methods to ensure continuous service.<\/p>\n
