A chilly Kingaroy night couldn’t scare away patrons from the League Legends night hosted by the Kingaroy Men’s Shed on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Rugby league legends Shane Webcke, Darius Boyd and Ben Hannant discussed how they – at some times unexpectedly – got into rugby league.<\/p>\n

The trio answered questions posed by Deputy Mayor Gavin Jones.<\/p>\n

Early setbacks, for example not being selected for rep teams as a youngster, did not stop the trio from achieving success with persistence and hard work.<\/p>\n

They shared their struggles along the way, coping with horrendous “boot camp” team-building tasks, injuries and personal issues.<\/p>\n

But they also shared the valuable support they had received from key male figures in their lives.<\/strong><\/p>\n

All three were full of praise for then-Broncos coach Wayne Bennett, especially Webcke who shared how Bennett ignored a vital training day with the Maroons to attend his father’s funeral.<\/p>\n

Coping and building resilience were key themes for the night, which had a focus on men’s health.<\/p>\n

The audience of more than 100 enjoyed a free barbecue served up by the volunteers from the Kingaroy Men’s Shed while they listened to the inspirational talks.<\/p>\n

There was also a cash bar operating at the 18+ event.<\/p>\n

The evening was sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council which received funding from the Federal Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program.<\/p>\n
