The path to the finals has become a bit more complicated for the South Burnett Thrashers after they were beaten by Goondiwindi at the weekend.<\/p>\n

The team had hoped to beat the Emus to secure second spot on the table, but the loss means Gundy has leapfrogged into second, pushing the Thrashers into third.<\/p>\n

“We travelled out to Goondiwindi with an understrength team due to several players having work commitments or injuries,” club president Jamie Shirlaw said.<\/p>\n

The Emus are always very strong at home, but a forfeit in A Grade also strengthened the home team.<\/p>\n

“The Thrashers dug deep, keeping them to 14-nil until into the second half,” Jamie said.<\/p>\n

“As the match dragged on we were unable to hold them out, going down 31-14.<\/p>\n

“Coach Mike Bishop, although not happy with a loss, was impressed with the team fighting until the last whistle of the game.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“He said that it could be just the wake up call the team needed before heading into the finals.<\/p>\n

“Although it is mathematically possible it is unlikely with one game to go to get back into second position on the ladder.<\/p>\n

“We now need to focus on St George this week and playing good footy for as long as we can.”<\/p>\n

The Thrashers were set to play ladder leaders St George in Kingaroy this Saturday, but the game may now be moved to Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

“The club will let people know as soon as we have confirmation where Round 14 will be played on Facebook and Instagram,” Jamie said.<\/p>\n
