Toowoomba Hospital oncology patients will soon have the opportunity to participate in a new cancer treatment trial.<\/p>\n

For the first time, the hospital will participate in a Phase 2 trial, which allows patients to receive a new type of treatment.<\/p>\n

The trial\u2019s aim is to prove with evidence and patient experiences that this new treatment is better than what is already currently available.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a strong research culture at the Toowoomba Hospital,\u201d medical oncologist Dr Harry Gasper said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis latest clinical trial will expand on this. We will soon commence screening potential patients to participate in this trial.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis trial will offer them a new treatment that could potentially lead to better outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n

This treatment trial has been set up to capture the experiences of patients who have several different types of tumours, and who have exhausted all other conventional treatment options.<\/p>\n

Participation in the trial is voluntary, and patients will be given detailed information about the treatment, the measures that are put in place to ensure their safety, as well as any potential side effects.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnecdotally, we tend to find that patients with cancer are very keen to participate in clinical trials,\u201d Dr Gasper said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt not only gives them hope that they could personally benefit from a new treatment, but it also gives them a sense of helping others and improving the outcomes for cancer patients in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
