Stanwell apprentice Brylie Jones – who is based at the Tarong Power Stations – will be putting her skills to the test soon at the prestigious 2023 WorldSkills Australia National Competition.<\/p>\n

The competition will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on August 17-19.<\/p>\n

Competitors across more than 50 trades and skill categories will showcase their expertise, with the eventual winner from each trade qualifying to compete at the International Competition at Lyon in France next year.<\/p>\n

Brylie has dedicated herself to becoming a world-class welder.<\/p>\n

She has been preparing for the competition while at the same time completing a TAFE Certificate III in Engineering \u2013 Fabrication Trade Boilermaking\/Welding.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been working hard preparing for both the practical aspects as well as the theory in the lead up to the competition, so I\u2019ve been learning how to read all the drawings and instructions properly. As well as learning how to do each weld to a high standard with no impurities,\u201d Brylie said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will be judged on each weld against a list of criteria, so I need to ensure there are no defects or misalignment. Plus, how we tack each piece together.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew I wanted to do something hands-on since I was little and I\u2019ve been particularly interested in welding as both my father and grandfather are boilermakers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Brylie has already had success at WorldSkills, winning a gold medal in the welding category at the WorldSkills Regional Competition at TAFE Queensland\u2019s Toowoomba campus late last year.<\/p>\n

Tarong Power Station general manager Michael Joy said Stanwell was committed to supporting trainees and apprentices gain on-the-job training and experience in their chosen field as part of Stanwell\u2019s Early Career Programs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to have Brylie represent Stanwell and the South Burnett region at the WorldSkills Australia National Competition in Melbourne,\u201d Mr Joy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis event is a fantastic opportunity for apprentices like Brylie to showcase their skills, gain valuable experience, and build relationships with peers from across the country.<\/p>\n
