South Burnett Regional Council has warned residents to be alert to scam phone callers claiming to be from Council.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson said residents should be vigilant and report any telephone call from a person posing as South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

“The person or persons have nothing to do with Council. Council does not survey people asking for personal information,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“If anyone receives one of these scam calls, please ignore or hang up immediately and block the caller.”<\/p>\n

Residents can report suspected scams online to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission\u2019s Scamwatch website<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Council is concerned that elderly and vulnerable residents are prey to scammers whose eventual aim is to steal people\u2019s identities and money,” the spokesman said.<\/p>\n

“Residents who believe they, or a family member, have been contacted by this scammer are urged to contact Council on (07) 4189-9100.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
