Queensland Governor Dr Jeannette Young<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Queensland Governor Dr Jeannette Young – who was the special guest at Nanango’s 175th anniversary celebrations on the weekend – will be returning to the South Burnett next month.<\/p>\n

Dr Young will be attending Wondai’s Reserve Forces Day commemoration on Sunday, July 2.<\/p>\n

It’s going to be a big weekend in Wondai, with the South Burnett Race Club hosting a race meeting on Saturday (July 1).<\/p>\n

Also on the Saturday, there will be social bowls at Wondai Bowls Club and the visitors who have been invited to attend the Reserve Forces Day commemoration will enjoy a meet and greet at the Wondai Diggers Club in the evening.<\/p>\n

Sunday’s events will begin with a wreath-laying and flag-raising ceremony at the Cenotaph in front of Wondai Town Hall at 10:00am.<\/p>\n

At 11:00am, the parade will begin to assemble in front of Wondai Post Office.<\/p>\n

The marchers will head down Mackenzie before turning in Scott Street and then right into Coronation Park.<\/p>\n

The main service will then be held in the park at the Percy Iszlaub pavilion.<\/p>\n

This will be the 18th year that Reserve Forces Day has been observed in Wondai, one of the few locations around Australian to mark this special day.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The commemoration is organised by a small committee headed by local resident Noel Selway.<\/p>\n

The weekend provides an opportunity for former and current reservists to socialise as well as honour their comrades.<\/p>\n

Wondai has proud links with the Army Reserves \u2013 and the former Citizens Military Forces \u2013 through its hosting of a depot of the 25\/49 Royal Queensland Regiment.<\/p>\n

25\/49 RQR has a distinguished lineage, tracing its roots back to the 8th Company Queensland Volunteer Rifle Brigade which was formed in Toowoomba in 1875.<\/p>\n

Members have served in both World Wars and, more recently, in the Solomon Islands, East Timor, the Sinai, Iraq and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
