Nanango Race Club is sporting a new set of stairs to the racecaller’s tower, thanks to a generous grant from Heritage Nanango Community Funding.<\/p>\n

Heritage put in $30,000 towards the $60,000 project, with the club providing the balance.<\/p>\n

Club president Andrew Green said the new tower stairs were used for the first time at the May meeting.<\/p>\n

As well as the steel stairs, the floors of the first platform and the caller’s box and judge’s box have been repaired.<\/p>\n

A concrete pad has been laid at the base of the stairs and a protective barrier erected.<\/p>\n

The final part of the work was completed literally just hours before the May meeting.<\/p>\n

“Heritage are amazing,” club secretary Leisa Green said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“As well as this, they sponsor a race at every meeting which is about $5500 a year.”<\/p>\n

Andrew said Ben Greenslade, from G3 Engineering at Nanango, completed the job.<\/p>\n

G3 have done a number of other upgrades around the racecourse over the years, including stairs to the stewards’ box and railings on the grandstand.<\/p>\n

Andrew said he was very pleased with the quality of the new stairs.<\/p>\n

“It’s all done to Australian compliance standards. They’re safe and look good, too!” he said.<\/p>\n

In another bonus, Racing Queensland has presented Nanango Race Club with an automatic external defibrillator (AED).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The AED arrived on Thursday, and will be kept in the race office.<\/p>\n

Having a defibrillator nearby can mean the difference between life and death if someone suffers a heart attack.<\/p>\n

The AED was supplied as part of a rollout by Racing Queensland to rural racing clubs.<\/p>\n
