Riders came to Nanango last weekend from all over SE Queensland for a weekend of learning and connecting with horses, campfires and new friendships at the Nanango Equestrian Centre.<\/p>\n

The weekend at the Nanango Equestrian Centre was attended mainly by those with “off the track” horses, ie. retired racing thoroughbreds, \u00a0and was made possible by a Queensland Racing Integrity Commission grant.<\/p>\n

On Saturday morning, equine trainer Angie Wicks<\/a><\/strong> shared insights into the horses’ psychology.<\/p>\n

There was some on-the-ground learning with participants refining techniques of ground work with their horses.<\/p>\n

Riders then took that knowledge into the ridden sessions, helping with softness and connection with their horses.<\/p>\n

A club spokesperson said everyone was very enthusiastic about the clinic and keen to have more off-the-track clinics to support retired racehorses transitioning to their new careers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Members of the club would like to thank Queensland Racing Integrity Commission for the funding to support this clinic and Angie for her enthusiasm for off-the-track horses.<\/p>\n

The next show by the South Burnett Western Performance Club is on Sunday, June 4, starting at 9:00am at the Nanango Equestrian Centre in Racecourse Road.<\/p>\n

Every show at the SBWPC has off-the-track classes to encourage new opportunities for thoroughbred or standard bred horses “bred to race”.<\/p>\n
