South Burnett rugby league games will be spread across two grounds again this weekend, but it could well have been three.<\/p>\n

A shortage of referees has meant the A Grade women’s game between Wondai and Cherbourg, which was to have been played at Cherbourg, has been postponed until July 8.<\/p>\n

Nanango Stags aren’t fielding an A Grade team in the senior men’s competition, but that hasn’t stopped them from going ahead with their traditional Old Boys Day at Fred Kassulke Oval on Saturday.<\/p>\n

All the South Burnett’s junior games – ie. U6s through to U12s – will be played at Nanango plus the U14s clash between the Stags and Kingaroy Red Ants.<\/p>\n

Former Stags players will be honoured during the day, plus a “Past Players Game” has been scheduled for 4:45pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The two SBRL A Grade games will be played at Kingaroy’s T.J. O’Neill Oval plus the South Burnett Eagles U15s and U16s games against Highfields.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy was also the host for last week’s A Grade games plus a full round of junior games.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the main A Grade game, the Red Ants defeated an under-strength Cherbourg Hornets 46-6 after leading 24-0 at half-time.<\/p>\n

The first half was shortened after a Kingaroy player was injured and an ambulance had to be called to the ground.<\/p>\n

But the delay didn’t derail the Red Ants’ assault on the Cherbourg line which resumed immediately after the break.<\/p>\n

With less than 10 minutes left on the clock, Kingaroy was leading 40-0 until Cherbourg’s Daniel Cobbo scored a late consolation try.<\/p>\n

But Kingaroy wasn’t finished.<\/p>\n

Harry Sterling, who had already scored three tries and kicked six conversions, rubbed salt into the Hornets’ wounds by scoring a runaway try down the field with less than a minute to go.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy tries were scored by Harry Sterling (4), Lachlan Price (2) and Sata Tale (2). Harry Sterling kicked seven goals.<\/p>\n

Daniel Cobbo scored the Cherbourg try which was converted by Bernard Hopkins.<\/p>\n

In the second A Grade game, Wondai 58 def. Murgon 24.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wondai try scorers included: Asofono Lemalu (2), Sonny Weazel, Tyler Prescott, Braydon Riddle, Conan Holding, Mitchell Bleys, Luke Hedges\u00a0and Sonny Weazel. Keith Gadd Jnr kicked the nine conversions.<\/p>\n

Murgon try scorers were: Christopher Bond, Dada Dunrobin, Lennox Bligh, Sam Davis and Thomas Pallentine. Chris Bond kicked two goals.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Hornets football club have received a 2023 Westpac Footy Grant.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The $4000 grant will be used to upgrade the club\u2019s canteen at Jack O’Chin Oval.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson said Westpac had donated $100,000 in total to 48 football clubs across Queensland.<\/p>\n
