Nanango’s 175th celebrations will be taking a dramatic turn on Friday night with two special plays set against the backdrop of local history.<\/p>\n

The gala night at Taras Hall (Nanango RSL Club) will feature the premiere of a one-act play, “Tiaras At The Palace”, written especially for the town’s “demisemiseptennial”.<\/p>\n

It follows the life and adventures of Lady Matilda (“Tilly”) as she tries to become a leading light of the town.<\/p>\n

It’s set in Nanango’s Palace Hotel and was written by the Palace Playwrights, ie. Denise Smith, Rae Burke and\u00a0Janet Korknobel.<\/p>\n

The second play on Friday night is “The Pram” by established playwright – and former South Burnett radio announcer – Hugh O’Brien.<\/p>\n

This one-act mystery, written in 2019, is also set in Nanango and features a large pram on stage as it explores events from a century ago.<\/p>\n

Organisers have urged residents to come along to the gala night at Taras Hall to help celebrate Nanango’s birthday.<\/p>\n

Guests have been invited to dress up in colonial gear to add even more colour to the evening!<\/strong><\/p>\n

There’ll be prizes for the costume closest to what you think Tilly will be wearing, as well as prizes for the most appropriately dressed group, and best-dressed colonial man.<\/p>\n

Tickets for the gala night at Taras Hall can be <\/strong>booked online<\/strong> <\/a><\/p>\n

After the gala opening night, the two plays will move to the Nanango Theatre Company’s playhouse on the corner of Elk and George streets, Nanango, where they will continue for the rest of their short season.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s 2:00pm matinee is already sold out, but there are still tickets available for Saturday night’s performance at 7:00pm, and the two 7:00pm performances on the following Friday and Saturday nights (May 26-27).<\/p>\n
