Cherbourg is the second most disadvantaged local council area in Australia, according to 2021 data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.<\/p>\n

The Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) tables rank areas according to their relative socio-economic advantage and disadvantage using Census data.<\/p>\n

According to the tables, Cherbourg is the second most disadvantaged Council area both in Queensland and Australia, with Woorabinda taking first spot in both sets of data.<\/p>\n

However, parts of the South Burnett Regional Council area are also listed in “most disadvantaged” area maps, including Nanango, Wondai, Murgon, Proston, Durong and most of Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Overall, the South Burnett council area is the 19th “most disadvantaged” Council area in Queensland and 62nd in Australia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Other surrounding council areas have been ranked as better off than the South Burnett, ie. Somerset 31\/121; Gympie 24\/80; North Burnett 20\/67 and Toowoomba 55\/295.<\/p>\n

SEIFA combines Census data including income, education, employment, occupation, housing and family structure to summarise the socio-economic characteristics of an area.<\/p>\n

Each area receives a score indicating how relatively advantaged or disadvantaged that area is compared with other areas.<\/p>\n
