Years 9-12 students in the Toowoomba Regional Council area have been invited to take part in the Mayor’s Telstra Innovation Awards.<\/p>\n

Mayor Paul Antonio said the awards were being conducted in collaboration with Telstra, the University of Southern Queensland, TAFE Queensland and Toowoomba & Surat Basin Enterprise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe competition challenges the brightest minds in our high school students studying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) from Years 9 to 12,\u201d Mayor Antonio said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are challenging students to display their most innovative projects by unlocking their problem-solving potential to take their big ideas to the next level.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe judges are looking for the next innovative idea or a new and creative use of an existing concept or technology in any field, ranging from social media, gaming technology to robotics, health, agriculture, security, conservation, construction, energy, or recreation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe awards highlight the importance of studying STEM fields and how potential advances can benefit the Toowoomba Region and expand a knowledge-based economy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe program aims to nurture students\u2019 existing knowledge and inspire them to be innovative and collaborative. It will encourage teamwork between students, giving them a chance to present their ideas and concepts to a wider community audience and recognise their efforts and achievements.”<\/p>\n

The program is also designed to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among entrants by connecting them with the region\u2019s business community.<\/p>\n

Phase 1 entries close on May 17.<\/p>\n
