Canola growers have been warned not to use haloxyfop on canola destined for export.<\/p>\n

Haloxyfop is a herbicide used to control certain grasses and broad leaf weeds.<\/p>\n

A GRDC spokesperson said on Thursday the European Union had announced it intends to reduce the maximum residue limit (MRL) for the chemical.<\/p>\n

To meet this requirement, 2023-24 canola treated with haloxyfop should not be delivered or received into the Australian grain handling system for grades destined for export.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Applying haloxyfop to canola according to current Australian label directions would create residues above the expected new EU MRL.<\/p>\n

If treated canola was delivered, it would jeopardise market access to the EU.<\/p>\n

“Australian canola is highly sought after in overseas export markets,” the GRDC spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“To maintain our strong trading reputation and ensure continued market access, it is critical that exported canola meets import country MRLs.”<\/p>\n
