Queensland beekeepers have been urged to check their hives to ensure the State is free of varroa mite.<\/p>\n

This follows the news the pest has been detected in more areas of NSW, including the Central Coast and Hunter regions.<\/p>\n

Agricultural Minister Mark Furner said Queensland commercial and recreational beekeepers should report all checks they make on their hives, even if they do not find any suspect mites.<\/p>\n

Beekeepers can report hive checks online<\/a> or by calling 13-25-23.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Beekeepers should also ensure their record-keeping was up to date so that all bee movements could be traced in the event of a bee pest or disease outbreak.<\/p>\n

Beekeepers have also been invited to join a free webinar, presented in conjunction with the Queensland Beekeepers Association, at 6:00pm on Wednesday (April 19).<\/strong><\/p>\n
