South Burnett Salvation Army leaders Majors Allan and Carolyn Kerr have begun putting out the call for volunteer doorknockers for this year’s Red Shield Appeal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Salvation Army launched the second phase of this year’s Red Shield Appeal on Saturday morning when they began their drive to recruit volunteer collectors and drivers.<\/p>\n

The Appeal will be held in two weeks time, with the biggest effort in Kingaroy on Sunday, May 26.<\/p>\n

The Red Shield Appeal is the Salvation Army’s major fund-raising drive of the year, and the funds it raises go to assist the Army’s work in the region – particularly the rural chaplaincy program, which assists local farmers still struggling to recover from the effects of two floods in just three years..<\/p>\n

On Saturday, South Burnett Salvation Army leaders Majors Allan and Carolyn Kerr manned a stand at Kingaroy Shoppingworld to sign up volunteers for this year’s drive, as well as raise awareness for the Appeal.<\/p>\n

However they still have plenty of vacancies for helpers.<\/p>\n

On Appeal day, collectors will assemble at the Salvation Army’s headquarters at Alford Street in the morning and be driven to a small territory they can doorknock in a few hours.<\/p>\n

Doorknockers can be of any age, but if they’re under the age of 15 they must be accompanied by an adult.<\/p>\n

After this, they’ll be driven back to HQ for a free sausage sizzle and free McDonald’s vouchers to thank them for their efforts.<\/p>\n

PS: Although the main Red Shield Appeal drive is held in Kingaroy, volunteers in other towns who’d like to take part are very welcome to run collections in their own towns, too. Call the Salvos about this and they’ll be happy to help with the arrangements.<\/p>\n
