Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has congratulated Kumbia State School on a successful first term of delivering a kindy program at the school.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said she had been pleased to advocate on behalf of the community to secure the kindy program for Kumbia families.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn July last year I met with members of the Kumbia Kindy Committee and Kumbia principal Mr (Michael) Sutton to discuss the possibility of merging the kindy with the school,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were seeking a solution to the problem of keeping their small community-controlled kindy facility operational, and the idea of integrating the kindy with the school, similar to what had been achieved at Bell State School, was suggested.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe families also shared the importance of retaining kindergarten services in their township, explaining that if the kindy closed down it would mean a one-hour round trip to Kingaroy to access kindergarten.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe flow-on effects would mean that families would have been more likely to transfer their older children to school in Kingaroy, rather than remaining at Kumbia State School.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was pleased to advocate on their behalf and spoke directly to the Minister for Education to put this practical proposal forward.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is fantastic to see this idea come to fruition for our kindy kids and their families and to learn that the first term of this service has been very successful.<\/p>\n

\u201cI recently visited Kumbia State School to present the new school leaders with their badges and it was great to hear the new kindy program has got off to a great start.”<\/p>\n
